There has perhaps never been a better time to start building a home based business than right now in 2009.  So what makes this year the perfect year to start working from home?  Economy, economy, economy….

It oges without saying that the economy is in a horrible state right now.  People are losing their jobs left and right.  As I was researching this post I tried to find the exact number of American’s who lost their jobs last year alone.  I could not find it.  I found anywhere from 600,000 to over 2 million.

Whatever the number it is safe to say that nobody’s job is safe in 2009.  Because of this there has never been a better time to start working for yourself.  It goes without saying but when you work for yourself you can never get fied.

When you work for yourself you can also never get passed over for a promotion.  In fact, you can give yourself a raise whenever you want!  How many jobs can you say that about?  Another reason why working from home has become so appealing in 2009 is the price of gas.  When you work from home your commute is as simple as from your bed to your computer (if you have a laptop, maybe not even that!).  I am making light of things but the truth is that you can save a lot of money on gas and maintenance to your car every year by leaving your morning commute behind.

Are you starting to see why people find a home based business so appealing?  We have not even talked about the cost of food.  Since many people go out to eat for lunch every day you can save money there, and the price for child care if your kids are currently in a daycare center (that can get really pricey fast!).

Lastly, in the year 2009 there are more ways to market your business online than ever before!  Gone are the old school days of  network marketing where you have to buy expensive leads or, even worse, go door to door pedaling your goods.  In 2009 you can market your business exclusively online and almost completely free.  You’ll never have to buy another lead again!

Finding Time To Build Your Successful Home Business

If you are a part of a home based business you have probably struggled with finding the time to work your business.  If you have, you are not alone.  Almost everyone I know has at one point said “I just don’t have time!”

So here are a few helpful hints to help you find little pockets of time to build a successful home business in the midst of your busy life.

One thing that has been extremely helpful with my business has been to write down how I spend all of my time during the week.  I don’t just mean “home” or “at work” but every single things that you do during the day.

For instance, I found that during a certain day of the week I was watching 3 hours of television and on another night I was just surfing the Internet for a couple of hours and not accomplishing anything.

I promise you that even if you have the business of schedules if you do this exercise you will find a ton of time you never even knew you had.

Another tip is to get up one hour earlier in the morning or go to bed one hour later at night.  Of course, I do not want you to be dead tired during the next day, but one hour is not really that much and you can get a lot accomplished during that time.

A lot of people find it to be very effective to work their home based business on their lunch break from work.  If you get an hour for lunch, you can eat for the first 15 minutes and then make calls for the last 45.  You can have good conversations in 45 minutes.

Remember that finding time to work your home based business is all a matter of desire.  If you really want to make it happen you can do it no matter what your schedule looks like while others can have a ton of time but very little desire (and usually get very little done).

Make the choice to find time every single day to work on building your business.  A successful home business is like nothing else.  You can build it once and it will take care of you for a very, very long time.  Make some small sacrifices now for a huge payoff in the future.

Network Marketing Lies And Myths (We Tell Ourselves)

Home based business owners have a horrible habit of lying to ourselves about our business.  In this post I’ll go over the little lies we all tell ourselves and how to get real and start seeing more success.

Lie #1: My product/business will pretty much sell itself.

There is not a product or a business out there that is good enough to sell itself without any marketing.  Be real:  Some MLM products are, well, stupid, some are okay, and some are great.  You can get rich marketing any one of them.

Your product can be the greatest product in MLM, but if you are not working for it, it will not work for you.  Period.

The same can be said for your opportunity.  Just because you think it is the greatest way to make money form home does not mean people are going to be banging down your door begging to sign up.  No matter how great your business is, it’s going to take some effort on your part.

Lie #2: “So and so” probably doesn’t work that much

If you are making money in a network marketing business, you are going to work hard!  People tend to look at the top earners in their companies and believe that they do not work that hard or that they “just got lucky.”

They did not “just get lucky.”  They set a goal, worked hard, and sacrificed to get there (no matter what they say).  Success in this industry never comes without work.  Look at the top earners in your company as examples of what can happen when you work hard and set a goal and stop thinking the just caught  lucky break.

Lie #3: I do not have to improve myself

Everyone needs to do little things every month, every week, and every day to improve themselves.  Nobody is outside of this.  I am not saying there is anything wrong with you, but there is always room for improvement and if you are not working on yourself, your business is not going to grow (at least, not at the rate you want it to).

Lie #4: People will not say “no” to me

Let me be blunt:  You are going to hear “no” a lot.  Hearing the word “no” does not mean that your business is not good or your product stinks.  It just means that the person you are talking to is not interested.  Anyone who has had any kind of success in a home based business  has heard the word “no” a lot.  Get use to it!  Embrace it!  It has nothing to do with you; it is just the nature of the beast.

Lie #5: I’ll be quitting my job next month

There is no such thing as overnight success.  I am not saying that you cannot speed the process along, but the fact of the matter is that it is going to take a while to see huge success.  Don’t go telling your co-workers, your spouse, or your boss that you’ll be leaving before you’ve even got your first check.  It is just best for everyone.

It is awesome to shoot for greatness.  Just do not make your goals so high that when you do not meet them you get discouraged and want to quit.

Lie #6: My business will build itself

This is a lot like the first lie, but it is worth saying again:  No business will 100% build itself.  Sure, there are ways to automate your business and take a bit off your shoulder.  But it is going to require some work on your part.  Do not let anyone tell you differently.

Lie #7: My business does not need structure

Just because your home based business is not a job does not mean it does not need structure.  You cannot go weeks or days upon days without working your business.  You cannot work 30 hours one week and 3 the next!

Your network marketing business needs some sort of structure if it is really doing to work for you.  Of course, the beauty of working from home is you can fit that schedule around your life and the life of your family; just don’t get to loosey goosey with it.

Stop lying to yourself and start getting real!  I promise that when you do your business will be much better for it.

Successful Home Business List Building

You’ve probably heard before that “the money is in the list.”  But what does that really mean?  It means that the more people you have on your marketing list the better chance you have of signing up more people and therefore making more money in your successful home based business.

It is true that the money is in the list … so how do you build a giant prospecting list when you’re just getting started in your home based business?  Or perhaps you’re not new to MLM but you are new to the idea of list building.  Either way, this post is designed to show you how to build the largest list possible in the shortest amount of time.  Remember, the money is in the list!

The first thing you are going to need is a squeeze page.  Squeeze pages are used by almost all serious Internet marketers.  They allow people to take a look at your website and business only after they give you information, such as their name and email address.

Some squeeze pages have lots of information the prospect needs to enter but really all you need is the first name and email.  Many people are not comfortable putting in their phone number, address, or anything else.  If you ask for too much, your opt-in rate will decrease.

Once you get an opt-in they should be allowed to access your website and get the information they need.  They will also be put in an auto-responder.  An auto-responder is a program that sends out emails for you.  This allows you to be doing other things for your business while the auto-responder markets to your prospects for you.

When a prospect is ready to talk to you personally they will pick up the phone and call you!  This is the best way to use your list.  When they call you, you know they are really serious about working from home and building a successful home based business with you!

If you are not currently using a squeeze page, you need to get one.  It is the best thing you can have for your online business.  Many marketers use multiple squeeze pages in order to get the most opt-ins possible.

Another way to grow your list is by giving away something for free.  People love free stuff (I know I do!).  By creating your own product (usually a free report or an eBook) and setting up a website to give it away for free, your opt-in list will grow by leaps and bounds!  You will also have to make sure the product you give away is something that has to do with working from home.  This will target the right people to opt-in to your list.

Don’t worry about bugging people with your emails because at the bottom of each message your auto-responder will place opt-out link.  This way only the people who are really interested stay on your list.

Finally, once you have set up your free product page and your business squeeze pages you will need to promote, promote, promote!  If you do not promote your websites, nobody (or very few people) will ever find them.  Use free sites like network marketing forums, MySpace, Facebook, YouTube, and article websites to get the word out about your pages and you will have a lot of free prospects in no time.

Follow these easy steps and you will have more prospects than you will have time to talk to in a day.  Remember, your list will not grow overnight or without some serious promotion.  But if you are looking for a cost effective way to have a lot of people to talk to, this is the best method out there.

Network Marketing Fault Finders, Are You One?

If you are in a network marketing company, you know the type of people I am talking about:  Fault Finders.  These people might think they’re doing some good but all they are really doing is holding themselves (and sometimes others!) back.

So how do you now if you’re a network marketing fault finder?  Just check out this article, of course!  If you’ve done at least 3 out of the 5 things I’m about to list, watch out; you may be a fault finder!

If you … do not like most of the successful people in your company.

Look, you don’t have to love all of the top earners in your company.  however, if you don’t like most of them chances are it is not them, it is you!   People who are not successful like to find the faults of those who are when what you should really be doing is following their steps to success.

Who cares if they wore something tacky to the convention or they don’t know which (their, there, they’re) to use.  If they are having success, they must be doing something right!  Just focus on that.

If you are … always wanting to improve your products.

It does not just have to be the products, by the way.  It could be the websites, the compensation plan, or whatever.  the point is if you are constantly wanting to improve things before you get started you will probably never get started.

No company is perfect.  If that’s what you are waiting for you might as well get out now.  People have made hundred of thousands of dollars and even millions in network marketing with some of the worst products imaginable.  So really … it just does not matter!

If you are … always emailing your upline with suggestions.

We are sure your upline loves you.  We are also sure that they do not want to get 30 emails a week from you.  This is especially true if your emails are all ideas about how the company, the team, or they could improve.

Look, your upline probably cannot change things anyways and honestly, it is just going to bring them back down.  Don’t do it!

If you … listen to stories of failure.

For everyone that has a success story in network marketing, there are many more stories of people who tried and failed.  Don’t listen to them!

We are sorry your cousins, your best friends, or other family member lost money 15 years ago, but listening to that kind of negativity does not do anyone any good.

If you … focus on the details.

When it comes to success in network marketing the details are not important.  So stop focusing on them!  Many, many successful 6 figure earners couldn’t tell you what they make on their 7th level.  Why are you worried about it?

If you see yourself in any of these 5 examples you might just be a network marketing fault finder.  But do not despair!  You can always turn away from your fault finding ways and see success!

Stop finding the faults in your business and start making money in it!  Is not that why you are there in the first place?

Build Your Successful Home Based Business Like A Child (And Get Rich!)

So many people involved in a home based business feel that they have to be extremely smart or mature in their business before the real success will come.  In this article I plan to show you how building your business like a child can help you see more results faster and grow your income in a huge way.

How could thinking like a child possibly help your business?  Here are a few reasons why you should act your shoe size … not your age.

Children only have one goal in mind at any given moment.  For instance, if you’ve ever seen a little boy or girl in the toy aisle at Wal-Mart or Target they’re usually begging their mom or dad for a toy.  In that moment, in the mind of a child, that toy is the most important thing on planet earth.

You can try and distract them but they want what they want and they’re not going to stop putting up a fight for it.

As a home based business owner you can learn a lot from this.  If we, as adults, had one-eighth the passion for success that the small child has for their toy we’d be hearing a lot more success stories in our home based businesses.

Children don’t have a plan B, and we shouldn’t either.  Almost all network marketing success stories come from people who were at a point in their lives when they literally had no other option but success.

In that moment in the toy aisle you’ll never see a child say, “Well I really want that new doll but I do have several other dolls at home I could play with so I’ll just forget about it.”

So, for instance, if your goal is to make a six figure income working from home you should not see yourself short by saying, “Well, I guess $60,000 is really all I need.”

Set a goal and allow yourself no other options but reaching that goal.

Another way children are great examples is how they deal with people.  Children have no fear.  If a little boy walks up to another little boy in the sandbox and asks him to play, he’s not thinking, “Oh gosh I don’t know if I should ask him to play.  I mean, he’s having a pretty good time in the sandbox, and I don’t want to bother him.”

NO!

If a kid wants to play with another kid he just walks up and asks him.  No fear, no beating around the bush.  If he want to play, great!  If not, at least he knows.

Have an idea of what I am getting at?  You have to talk to people about your home based business without any fear.  After all, the worst they can say is no, right?

Stop worrying about if you’re “bothering” people or trying to figure out exactly what they’re going to say.  Who cares?  You have something great in yoru hands and if they want it, awesome!  If they do not, so what?

Market your business less like an adult and more like a confident, excited child and your business will never be the same again!

Successful Home Business Growth After A Convention

So you’ve attended your company’s convention.  You received great training, were inspired by stories of success and triumph, and are enthused and ready to get back to work building a successful home based business.

You get back to your home town and start making plans.  You’re excited!

And then a couple of days later, it hits you.  That feeling of being completely overwhelmed settles in and you’re wondering what you are going to do to make your business successful.

Now what?

This happens a lot.  A lot of people just naturally let their enthusiam fade when they are unsure about what to do.

So here are a few quick tips to get past it:

1.  Make a task list.  Make it managable.  Do not try to bite off more than you can chew, but make sure you are in daily action.

2.  Keep in touch with successful upline leaders.  Let them continually motivate you and keep you on task.

3.  Keep plugged in to the company.  Listen in on corporate update calls.  Attend prospecting calls, preferably with prospects.  Keep in tune with what your company is doing.

Don’t let the overwhelming feelings deter you from building a successful home based business.  Keep focused and you can achieve success.

Is Your Success An Obessions Or A Wish?

As I’m building a successful home based business, I find myself asking:

Brent, are you obsessed with success?

When we hear or say the word “obessed” we begin thinking that is a bad thing.  But I am not convinced that being obsessed with success is bad at all.

Most people just “wish” they were successful.  They might set a few goals to be successful.  If they don’t meet those goals, they stop.  There is no driving force, no passion, nothing.

But when you are obsessed with obtaining success, you’ll work until you’re dog tired in order to move a step closer.  It is all about doing it, doing it, doing it, and not giving up.  You dream about it.  You toss and turn at night about it.  It stays on your mind and makes you want to set aside trivial thing in order to obtain it.

Yes, I’m obsessed with success.  Are you?

Success in my home business is something that sticks with me.  No matter what I’m doing, I’m craving success.  I’m thinking of what I can be doing today to help me be successful.  I’m thinking of what I can do tomorrow to help me be successful.  I’m thinking of what I can improve.  I’m thinking of what I can trim out of my daily schedule to help me get to the place I want to go.

You could say I’m obsessed.  But what is wrong with it?

Zrii Troubles – Could You Build A Successful Home Business Through It?

I’m not big on focusing on the issues of other companies struggles, but it makes for great writing material and material to reflect on.

But let me be real:  Zrii is a company in a struggle.

In case you have not heard, most of the executive management team resigned as well as many top distributors were terminated the first week of February.  I’ve read the articles, I’ve listened to some of the conference calls, and its amazing what is going on.

And it got me thinking:

Can anyone build a successful home based business through all of those issues?

Its tough enough at times to build a successful home based business through easy times, much less a recession and a company shake-up (and the subsequent lawsuits to follow).

I think that once the dust settles, if the company holds together through the effort of their top distributors that are left, that many will build a successful home busienss with them.  The key is, in order to do it, the remaining leadership in the field have to unite, be positive, and keep working.

So could you be successful through all of this?
