When you first start working from home (or even if you’ve been doing it for a while) it can be really hard to be disciplined. That’s why you have to train yourself to be successful working from home.

Of course one of the great things about working from home is that you can work when you want to work but some people take that too far. There are going to be times when you have to work even when you don’t want to.

For the work at home newcomer I recommend writing out a weekly schedule and sticking with it. That’s the only way to make sure you’re really going to get enough work done to become really successful.

Now you say: “hey, I signed up for a home based business so I didn’t have to follow a schedule!”

While that may be true, until you get the hang of working for yourself from home you’re going to need some sort of structure otherwise you won’t get nearly enough done each week and you’ll probably fall flat on your face.

When you work at a job you know exactly when and where you’re suppose to be working so as a business owner you will now have to train your brain. Once you get use to working on schedule you can feel free to give yourself a little more freedom because you’ll know just how much work it actually takes.

Think of it this way, when you first learn how to make a recipe you follow it very, very carefully because if you don’t you might mess it up. However, once you’ve made the dish lots of times you will almost never have to look at the actual recipe ever again. It will just become a part of you!

You’ll also have to train yourself to say “no” when people ask you to do things. Take it from me, when you work from home people think you do nothing. Even if you’re really busy some people just won’t get it. They think if you’re at home you must not be doing anything important.

You’ll have to learn to tell those people no because when you have to work you have to work! If you don’t train yourself to tell people no know it will get harder and harder.

Treat your business with respect and use your time wisely. Train yourself to be a great home based business owner and soon it will be second nature and you’ll be incredibly successful.

Are you looking for a home based business? If so you’re probably getting a tad bit overwhelmed with all the ads and websites and videos and articles all designed to sell you on a particular company. Is it possible for you to make a lot of money your first year… yes. But it will be based on your hard work and effort not because the company guarantees it to anyone.

The next thing to look out for is someone who is going to pressure you into joining their company. If someone is a part of a great opportunity they aren’t going to have to bug and beg everyone to get started. If someone seems too eager to get you to sign on the dotted line right away they probably don’t have your best interest at heart.

Finally, just remember to trust your instincts. If a company seems too good to be true it might just be. Even though home based businesses can allow you to live an amazing life beyond you wildest dreams all success comes after hard work and solid effort and if someone is promising you something different they aren’t telling you the truth.

Don’t get bogged down with the riff raff out there and find a great home business that’s right for you there are lots of them out there.

Consistency for 6 months, consistency for 9 months, consistency for 12 months, and beyond is what most people lack and why most who attempt to market online get frustrated and quit.

Trait #2:  Creativity

When I hear the word “creative” I think of fancy web pages, elaborate product offerings, and great writing skills.

And while these things can help, it is not the “creativity” that you need to succeed. In fact, the creativity that is needed is simply the ability to think like the person on the other end of the web browser.

What are they searching for?

Can you tie what you have to their search?

Do you have something that can help them?

What message do they need to see or hear to want to be on your list, to buy your product, or enroll in your business?

None of this has to be fancy or difficult. It simply takes some, and pardon the cliché, “thinking outside of the box” time and coming up with a plan to get your message found and read.

Trait #3:  Caution

There are two types of marketing web pages out there on the Internet: Good ones and bad ones.

The bad ones contain a lot of information. There is no mystery to the product, the offering, the business, or the message. It is out there for the world to see.

The good ones, however, exercise caution with their message. They give some information but not enough for someone to make an informed decision. Instead they give just enough information to interest the individual the message is targeting.

In return, the individual subscribes or willingly gives information in order to get the rest of the story.

So there are the three “C’s” of successfully marketing a home based business on the Internet. Using them could be the difference between frustration and results.

Here are 10 simple tips for making sure you have MLM success, whether you are brand new to MLM or are a veteran.

Tip #1: Choose the “right” company

I believe everyone has the “right” company for them. Everyone is going to say that they have the “right company for you, but in the end, you must make a decision.

There are key points to consider in choosing your “right” company:

Do you believe in the product?

Is the compensation plan workable (in short, can you make money)?

Do you agree with the company vision/philosophy?

Does the management seem ethical?

Does your support team (i.e. sponsor/upline, mentors, etc) seem knowledgeable and reliable?

Do you see yourself with this company 1 year from now, 5 years from now, 10 years from now, etc?

There are many other things that could be considered, but these should be enough to get your juices flowing.

Tip #2: Be enthusiastic, but be yourself

No one likes a dull presenter. At the same time, no one likes hype. The balance is to be enthusiastic and excited but not come across like you spent too much at your local coffee house. Be proud of what you are presenting, be it the business or the product, but avoid hyping it.

Tip #3: Keep “plugged in”

Your company or your support team should have conference calls regularly to inform, motivate, and instruct. These are invaluable to keeping a positive and focused mindset. If you keep on these calls, you will learn something new, be on the front-end of the news of new promotions, and will be inspired by hearing the success of others.

With keeping “plugged in” comes company events, conventions, conferences, etc. These are often a sacrifice financially if you are just starting, but the rewards you get from them, motivation, knowledge, and inspiration to name a few, will be of great benefit to your business. Attend these if possible.

Tip #4: Keep developing yourself

Being in MLM is more than building a team. It is about building yourself. The more you improve yourself, the more powerful you become when helping your team develop themselves. Self improvement is an on-going task, even for those who reach the highest levels and incomes of their companies.

Tip #5: Be a product of your product

You should be on auto-ship or some type of automatic ordering of your company’s product or services. How can you share a testimony of your product if you have not used it yourself? Get the product, use it, and track your results, whether it be in how you feel, what you save, what you gained, or whatever your product is meant to do. This creates a powerful testimony (and, if others in your company has similar testimonies, be sure to use those with your testimony).

Tip #6: Surround Yourself With Positivity

Be careful about who you associate with. It is usually easier for people to rub off on you than for you to rub off on multiple other people. If you find yourself in company with those who are negative, view things in a negative tone, or are negative about what you are trying to accomplish in your MLM home based business, then find someone positive to be around.

This is all about controlling your mindset. If you keep feeding your mind negativity and negative thoughts (either from yourself or from the social influences around you), you will find yourself becoming more negative. Your outlook on your business will be negative as well as reducing your will to work.

However, if you surround yourself with like-minded people or encouraging people, you will have a positive outlook on what you are trying to achieve.

Tip #7: Establish a mentor

Sometimes your sponsor is not the person you need to build a mentoring relationship with. There is nothing wrong with going to your upline or a successful cross-line (someone that does not benefit financially from your success) individual to seek guidance, knowledge, or encouragement. Your sponsor should be doing the same thing.

Tip #8: Diversify your marketing

Do not put all of your eggs in one basket. There are a lot of ways you can market your MLM business. Find a mix of what works for you and follow it. Add more to what you are currently doing as your time permits.

Tip #9: Never take “no” personally

The word “no” immediately spawns negative thoughts. Remember that “no” never means that you are a bad person, that you are horrible at what you do, or that you should give up. “No” really means that they are not qualified for your time yet. Not everyone understands the power of a MLM home based business. These people will continue to say “no” to any chance of success outside of a job. It has nothing to do with you but everything to do with them.

This is a prime example of where having a positive mindset and surrounding yourself with positive people helps. With a positive mindset, you know that a “no” is simply a stepping stone to a “yes.”

Tip #10: Never quit

I write about quitting often. People do not understand what implications quitting has on their lives. To quit their MLM home based business is giving up on their goals and their dreams. Yes, some do migrate to another company, but many simply give up.

Before anyone quits, they need to ask themselves how they plan to accomplish their “why,” or their reason for wanting to start a home business. If giving up on their reason is okay with them, they are not fit for this business. Most people never remind themselves of why achieving goals is important. Quitting simply is blocking out goals and accepting their current standards. It is accepting apathy instead of excellence.

Serious – Finding time to work your business

When it comes to finding time to work your business every week you have to get serious. The great thing about a home based business is you can work it whenever you want, the bad thing about a home based business is you can work it whenever you want!

If you don’t set out specific times to work your business you are destined to fail. Just because you can work your business around your families schedule doesn’t mean you won’t have to make some sacrifices along the way.

Try making a weekly schedule and sticking with it. Treat the time you spend working a home based business like the time you would spend at a “real” job. Also, let friends and family know when you’re going to be working so they don’t disturb you as much.

Laugh – Talking to rude people on the phone

If you’ve ever called people on the phone about your business chances are you’ve come across some really rude people. If you haven’t come across rude people you’re probably not calling enough!

Dealing with rude people over the phone is a part of just about any home business. You have to learn to laugh it off. You are calling these people to offer them something that they need! The thing you have to remember is most people are conditioned to understand having a regular 9-5 job and anything that’s a little different than that can freak people out. Don’t let it bother you when the people closest to you laugh. Many, many MLM success stories started with their family members laughing at them. Guess what… they aren’t laughing now!

Serious – Investing in tools to help you succeed

If you want to get really serious about making money from home you’re going to have to invest in tools for success at some point. That can come in the form of leads, or marketing tools it can also simply be ebooks or other types of information. If you want a business that’s going to pay you big money you’re going to have to invest a little.

Don’t waste your money on anything and everything, but find products that come with great testimonials and that you feel can really help your business. Don’t be afraid to spend a little money to make a lot!

Laugh – “Isn’t that a pyramid scheme?”

If I’ve heard this once I’ve heard it a thousand times. People have been calling legitimate multi level marketing companies “pyramid schemes” for the longest time and it’s probably not going to change.

Don’t let it bother you and laugh it off. There are many, many home based businesses out there that are moral, ethical and legal if people don’t know that by now that’s their problem not yours and certainly not your companies.

Learn when to get serious about your business and when to just laugh it all off and you’ll be a much happier and more motivated home business owner. Remember not to let anyone steal your dream from you, you CAN have success working from home!

A lot of people believe that success is the absence of failure. That’s not true. In fact, if you really want to succeed in a home based business, I’m going to tell you to embrace failure!

Look at it this way, you could make the best cheeseburger in the world… the entire world! And you could walk around the street trying to give it to people. Would everyone want one? Absolutely not!

Some people don’t eat meat…

Some people don’t like cheese…

Some people just wouldn’t believe it was really the greatest cheeseburger in the world…

Some people would think if you were giving it away it couldn’t possibly be any good…

There are about a million reasons why some people would choose not to eat that cheeseburger and not one of those reasons has anything to do with the cheeseburger. Get it?

However, the more people you talked to about your cheeseburger (or business) the more people you’d find who were interested. Yeah, sure you’re going to have to deal with people who don’t want it but that’s fine because that just means there will be more for the people that do!

Are you starting to get my point yet? You have to fail a lot before you can win big!

We often get the idea in our heads that if our business is really so great everyone would want to be a part of it and if even one or two people say no then it must not be that great after all. Obviously that’s just not true. Learn to embrace (and dare I say even enjoy) the failures because for every 20 people who say no chances are 1 or 2 are going to say yes and that is a victory for you and your business!

So don’t get discouraged by a few “no’s” it just means you’re that much closer to a great big yes!

I don’t know how it got started or why so many people believe it but there is a dirty little secret that has been going on for a long time in the world of home based businesses.

The same is true for business and it kind of blows my mind that anyone would think it’s possible to make 5, 6 or even 7 figures from home without work and lots of it.

That being said is success from home possible? Of course! It’s just gonna take work.

It’s funny how we are willing to work hard, I mean really hard for success in a regular j.o.b. but we won’t do the same for our own business. I remember times when I would work harder than almost anyone else in my department just hoping that my boss would take notice and promote me (they never did by the way). I would come in weekends, and work overtime and still never really get ahead.

However when it came to my home based business I seemed to be under the impression that working just a little bit would get me huge results… why is that?!

If you’re still trying to figure out if a home based business is right for you let me be perhaps one of the first people to be honest with you…. It’s gonna take work to succeed.

If you’re ok with the idea of working hard for your goals then you are in the right place. There is nothing like a home based business to allow you to live an amazing life and if you’re willing to work hard for it… it will pay off big time!
